Building On A Budget
Mike Dillard: Only a few short Years in the Internet Network Marketing business, he is becoming known as the grand father of the Magnetic (or attraction) Marketing system.
He is author of several books,The focus of this article will be on his publication "Building On A Budget"
The way he blows away the myth, "It Takes Money To Make Money" is cool. Years ago I started a company that grew to be a million dollar a year business. Not huge by Today's standards but it was then. The Point is I did it on a shoe string, and it's good to know it can still be done today. Wanna be entrepreneurs take heart!
On page eight Dillard says this " Lack of money isn't a deal breaker, it just requires that that you take a different approach and cash in a different kind of equity...Your creativity."----Good thought!
The intro. was too long, over five pages that had little to do with the the theme of the book. But I did find some good advice.
1. Stay away from pay per click ( until your a millionaire).
2. " " Direct mail.(I did thousands of pieces with 0 results)
3. " " classified adds.
4. " " post cards
He goes into a little detail on each of the above points
I believe greeting cards do have a place in our industry, and I intend to write an article about them soon. (stay tuned)
Chapter One
The total budget was suggested to be $500.00 with a goal to generate twenty free leads per day.
Page 13 paragraph three recommends a copy of "MLM Traffic Formula.com" check it out. I think the budget is busted already and we are still in the first chapter.
Dillard sets up a nice formula for a fictitious business that can be easily made to fit your own existing business, or any business you choose to start.
Logical reasoning in chapter one. How to advertise, how to set up a capture page = good advice.
Chapter Two
A step by step detailed instruction on how to use the free advertising provided by Craig's List.
How to instructions are great:
1.How to fill out the add forms.
2.How to put yourself in your prospects shoes.
3.How to attract the more serious prospects.
4.How to leave the lazy ones behind.
Dillard: Suggests a tracking link on each add. (Without a tracking link you will not know where you leads are coming from. You will not know how well your adds are doing. you will not know when to pull an add, or change it, or update it.)
Next he describes how to get massive traffic through multiple listings on Craig's list. He suggests some tricks to use in getting published and not be considered spam. If your content is considered spam all your adds will be blocked and removed from the system. He tells you how to get around it successfully. And how to leverage you time while doing it.
Chapter Three
"The Right Way To Get Free Traffic With Videos"
Another way to bust the budget: Here is a direct quote from page 23 paragraphs 2-4.
"You Tube has been growing so rapidly over the past several months, even Oprah and Queen Elizabeth have recently jumped on the bandwagon and created their own channels on You Tube to share their video messages."
"So what does this mean to you?"
"Well, if your looking for a cost effective way to get you message out in front of a boat load of people without having to break the bank, then posting online videos on sites like You Tube could be the perfect answer you've been searching for. There couldn't be a better time or place to capitalize on this massively growing trend."
Chapter Four
"How To Get Free Traffic and Top Search Engine Results With Press Releases" Straight forward and interesting. Good how to information. Five steps to write a press release with just enough detail to whet the appetite for more.
Again tracking links are recommended, suggests some free sites for tracking, and paid sites as well, usually the paid one are more efficient.
Chapter four is a must read for serious business builders.
Chapter Five
How To Get Free Traffic And Top Search Engine Results With Blogs.
List of subjects covered in chapter 5. This is for new ones in MLM Internet Network Marketing
1.What is a Blog.
2.Why every business MUST have a Blog.
3.Choosing a profitable topic for your Blog.
4.How to launch your Blog quickly and easily.
5.How to customize your Blog.
6.Posting content to your Blog.
7.Jump start traffic.
A caution on blogging: Quoted from page thirty seven, the last paragraph.
"A blog is not a personal advertising billboard. People read blogs because they want either information or entertainment. Create a Blog with this in mind, and don't blatantly post advertisements without delivering value. Even though I have inserted this warning, there will be some who ignore it. I assure you, none of them, not a single one, will ever gain anything other than a few hits to their site. This is not your goal. Your goal is to deliver value and gain loyal readers who you will attract and "pull" NOT "push" into your marketing funnel.
Pages 43 and 44 tells how master bloggers write their copy.(good things to Know)
And a list of questions to ask yourself as you begin to write copy.
On pages 45 and 46 25 ways to jumpstart traffic to your blog.
Chapter Six
Funded Proposals: How To Get Paid To Prospect, Even When People Don't Join Your Team.
A quote from page 47: "A funded proposal is the process of selling an inexpensive, but useful product on the front end such as "Magnetic Sponsoring System" course, or this "Building On A Budget" course to cover your advertising expenses and then back ending the real product or "opportunity", which is our fake Julma Juice business in this case. ( Julma Juice is a fictitious business set up to make the book more realistic)
The last nine pages of "Building On A Budget" is a summary and glimpse into Mike Dillard's organisation. His personality is also obvious in his summary, and there are a few more gems to be gleaned here.
All in all, after the first nine pages of fluff, the book was a good read. For the novice Internet Network Marketer it will be a real benefit although some things might not be understood right away. For the old Professional Network Marketer there are probably a few things to be learned, but the reminders may be worth their weight leads. Being still a novice Network Marketer I did understand it all and learned much.
One problem I found with the book, It goes into detail on what to do but it really doesn't tell you how to do it. There are better ways to to learn how to get started on a budget, "Renegade University" is one good one
I have tried to be accurate and objective and I hope I have succeeded. I am sure my peers will let me know what they think. I hope you treat me kindly.
